Hot property in Almeria A guide to Spains latest hotspot

The hottest place to relocate in Spain at the moment has to be Almeria. With great property in Almeria for sale at reasonable prices, now could be the time to take the plunge. Imagine waking under Almeria’s beautiful blue skies, a stone’s throw away from the neighbouring beaches. If you still remain unconvinced here are five reasons why buying a property in this amazing place is not only good for your lifestyle but a great investment too:

1) Beautiful Location

Almeria has some of the most breathtaking scenery in the whole of Spain. As the easternmost regional capital of Andalusia, beautiful semi-desert and miles of coastline with pristine beaches surround it.  There are also mountains and costal nature reserves aplenty. Almeria itself is a glorious city steeped in history and culture. Its historic quarter is beautiful and atmospheric, with narrow streets, whitewashed walls and amazing architecture.

2) House Market

Traditionally Almeria was one of the poorer regions of Spain but with demand for property in Spain from both within the country and overseas, it was only a matter of time before property investors discovered Almeria. Now many new villas and houses have been built in the area, bringing a newfound wealth and vitality to the essentially traditional locale. Because of this new and burgeoning housing market, property in Almeria is still reasonably priced and there are properties suited to all type of buyer and all budgetary requirements.

3) Traditional Feel

Although more and more people are moving to the region, Almeria still manages to maintain its traditional Spanish atmosphere. If you are looking to immerse yourself in Spanish living and you are moving for more than simply the weather and beach then this is the place to be. In the past Almeria’s economy was supported by its farming and everywhere you look this is still apparent, particularly in the olive groves and fields full of lemon trees.  Elsewhere you will notice the greenhouses used to produce some of the freshest and juiciest tomatoes to be found anywhere in the world.

4) Great Food

Food may seem a strange reason to move to an area but if you are in love with Spanish cuisine then this place has some of the best to offer. If you find a suitable property in Almeria you will be able to walk from your house to some of the finest traditional restaurants and cafés that Spain has to offer.  Due to its location on the Mediterranean coast fish and seafood are a mainstay and one of the greatest seafood offerings is the absolutely delicious pink shrimp caught in the local seas.

Seafood is also the main ingredient in some of the area’s traditional casseroles and is always to be found cooking on a grill (la plancha) or barbecue somewhere or other. You will also notice a spicy Arab influence in some of the food, especially in the use of some Arabic spices. This is most apparent in some of the local pastries.

5) Work

Not really wanting to bring in the ‘W’ word, working in Almeria is fairly stress-free and relaxed. The people here are relaxed, friendly and very accommodating. While it is possible to work for a company here, many who move to the area are self-employed people taking advantage of the freedoms that working remotely (particularly online) can offer.

The local town hall is responsible for managing self-employment and it is here that you need to apply for a permit. As in the UK, working in Spain means that you have to pay taxes and VAT contributions; however, as in the UK, once you pay your dues you are entitled to free medical care.
