The news from the Spanish property market is not all that the doom and gloom merchants would have you believe. Despite negative press and media coverage of the Spanish property market, the higher quality Spanish Properties are not only holding their value but actually saw a recorded annual growth of 7.8% for properties in the Almeria province of Southern Spain.

There are plenty of bargains and reduced price properties for sale in Spain but in general these “bargains and cheaper Spanish properties” are inferior properties of a lesser quality and located in the less desirable area of Spain and over developed towns and Costas.

The Almanzora Valley is steeped in history with origins dating back to prehistoric times, through to Romans, Moors and Christians. The village of Arboleas is a municipality of Almeria province. Arboleas is a small town about 65km2 and some 278 meters above sea level on the bank of the Almanzora River, in the spurs of the Sierra de los Filabres in the Almanzora valley, one of many small settlements along the course of the river, which waters the fertile plains. It has a strong agricultural economy, producing citrus fruit, olives, almonds and cereals.

Ferias and fiestas are the local fairs and celebrations which are usually held in honour of a patron saint, or to celebrate a religious festival.  The ‘feria’ (Latin for ‘free day’) dates back to ancient Rome and signified a day on which people were not obliged to work.  As Christianity spread, the Christian Church established its own dates for ferias (feast days) when Christians were required to attend Mass.  As these gatherings became more established, they developed into the festivals we know today and were fixed on saints’ days.
